Sample Preparation

Accurate analytical results begin with a reliable and representative sample preparation process. As a critical stage in the analytical workflow, sample preparation ensures that geological samples are transformed into homogeneous, representative sub-samples suitable for accurate testing. Even the most advanced analytical technologies cannot compensate for poor sample preparation practices.

At Orelysis, we recognize sample preparation as the foundation of quality analytical outcomes. Our dedicated sample preparation solutions are designed to deliver consistency, precision, and integrity throughout the testing process. We support exploration and mining operations by providing high-quality preparation services for a wide range of geological materials, including drill core, rock samples, drill cuttings, soils, stream sediments, and other mineral samples.

Our sample preparation processes typically include drying, crushing, splitting, pulverization, and homogenization, with each stage carefully managed to minimize contamination, preserve sample integrity, and produce reliable analytical material.

With flexible and project-specific solutions, Orelysis tailors sample preparation workflows to meet the unique requirements of each client, ensuring efficient turnaround times and dependable results that support confident exploration, resource evaluation, and mining decisions.

Our Preparation Methods

Crushing
Samples are processed in a crusher to reduce particle size. Crusher jaws are adjusted to achieve the required particle size. The crusher is regularly cleaned between samples to minimize carryover. Common specifications: 70% or 90% passing 2mm.
Pulverization
The final step in sample preparation. Typical grind specification is >85% passing through a 75-micron screen. Pulverisation homogenises material so even a tiny portion accurately represents the bulk of the original sample.
Sample Splitting
Rotary or Riffle Splitting procedures are used to representatively divide a sample into identical portions for assay. The lab must be advised if samples to be split are potentially hazardous.
Drill Core, Rocks & Chips
Excessively wet samples may require additional drying. It is helpful to advise us of mineralised samples that may require special equipment cleaning cycles.
